How far is too far?

www.prevent-it.ca

So I've seen this commercial a couple of times now, and it STILL disturbs me. It's a retail establishment and this chick falls off a ladder, the it goes into a schpeel about injuries at the workplace or whatever, but the girl is standing there just COVERED in blood! As far as I'm concerned, this commercial is way too graphic for daytime television viewing. Hell it scares the crap outta me, I can't imagine how a child would react to it.

You wonder why society is the way it is? Watch television.

When will the envelope be pushed so far that people react?

I guess if you are watching tv during the day you do not work. No prob I see you have a beautiful baby and are a stay at home mom. Thats cool. I think the meaning behind these commercials is a very good one. There is alot of new young people in the workforce and just take for granted what is being told to them . NO CLUE at all to the results of a unsafe work place. I bet your hubby or boyfriend can apprieciate these commercials. I know I do and it has opened may bosses and company eyes. Hey after all we all want to come home safe at the end of the day to spend it with loved ones.

Yes, sadly these days the only adult voices I hear during the day come from brief moments infront of the idiot box. :)

When I left work to begin my maternity leave, I was vice-president of my union local so I do grasp the unfortunate consequences that can arise from an unsafe work environment or careless procedures.

And I agree that the message needs to get out there. My concern is the packaging necessary for society to sit up and take notice. Graphic commercials should be reserved for a time when no child is likely to see them, or the next generation will be just as desensitized to images of violence as we currently are.
